Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State softball is excited to welcome Kevin Castillo to the staff, joining the Beach as a volunteer assistant with the program.
"We are so fortunate and thrilled to add Kevin as our volunteer coach," said head coach Kim Sowder. "Having played the game at the highest level with the USA Men's Fastpitch team for the past 8 years, Kevin brings a wealth of experience and knowledge. He will be working with both our hitters and our infield." A graduate of Long Beach Poly, Castillo attended both Long Beach City College and Bacone College, playing baseball at both schools as well as golf at Bacone, but throughout was gaining experience in fastpitch softball.
Playing for the USA Junior Men's National team in 2005, Castillo broke into the Senior National Team in 2008, where he has played ever since. A member of team USA for the 2013 and 2016 ISF World Team championships, Castillo just recorded his best season yet, earning ASA All-American honors as well as selection to the ISC All-World Team as an infielder for the second year running.
In addition to working as an assistant coach at both the club and high school levels, Castillo has worked at the On Deck Batting Cages in Signal Hill as a hitting instructor for the last two years. The facility serves as Long Beach State softball's rainy day home batting cages.
