Long Beach, Calif. - The postseason accolades continue to roll in for Dirtbags starting pitcher Darren McCaughan. The sophomore from Downey, Calif. was just named a third team Perfect Game/Rawlings College All-American, becoming the first Dirtbags player to receive the honor.
McCaughan was previously named a second-team All-American by Collegiate Baseball and the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). The 2016 Big West Pitcher of the Year is currently training with the Team USA Collegiate National Team, looking to earn a spot on the final 24-man roster, which will be announced sometime this week.
Not only is McCaughan the first Long Beach State player to get an All-American nod from Perfect Game, he is also the first Dirtbag to receive multiple All-American nods since Evan Longoria garnered four in 2006. Aside from freshman honors, the last All-American from Long Beach State was Josh Frye in 2014, who was a second team selection by Collegiate Baseball.
This season, McCaughan was 10-1 with an ERA of 2.03 in 111 innings of work. He struck out 84 batters while only surrendering 16 walks, and opposing batters hit just .193 against him. McCaughan is the only Big West representative on this year's Perfect Game/Rawlings College All-American Teams.
