LONG BEACH - The Long Beach State track & field team held its first meet at Jack Rose Track in 11 years as it hosted the Pacific Coast Intercollegiate on Thursday.
Sophomore Madison Carney paced the Beach with an individual victory in the 200m. She finished ahead of the 17-athlete field in a wind-aided personal-best 24.22 seconds.
Carney was also a member of LBSU's runner-up 4x100 relay team that clocked in at 45.89 seconds. She joined forces with sophomore Ashleigh Chambers, freshman Courtne' Davis and redshirt freshman Whitney Knox to establish the eighth-fastest time in program history.
In addition, Carney advanced to the finals in the long jump and finished eighth overall with a lifetime-best 17-09.5. Freshman Allison Foster added a 10th-place showing with a leap of 17-07.
Knox posted a top-five performance in her first 100m race of the year (12.15), while sophomore Elijah McDonald had a fourth-place showing in the 100-meter hurdles (14.21).
Junior Janet Salazar ran a season-best 4:49.62 in the 1500m.
Senior Aundrea Yancy was Long Beach State's top finisher in the high jump, matching her season best at 5-05 for third place. Freshman Diana Acholonu wasn't far behind in fourth, registering a season-best 5-03.
Senior Jodi Lambert took fifth in the pole vault at 12-06.5, just .25 inches off her PR. Sophomore Kennedy Krueger tied for seventh (12-00.5), and classmate Jessica Henslee was 11th with a season-best 11-06.5. Redshirt freshman Lea Fong also reached a season-best 11-06.5 (T13th).
On the men's side, seniors Conner Rouse and Michael Montgomery tied for third in the pole vault, each clearing a season-best 17-06. That was also a personal record for Rouse who moved up two spots into a tie for seventh on the 49er all-time charts. Junior Xander Cooper contributed a fifth-place finish with a lifetime-best 16-06. Juniors Paul Thenard (16-00) and Bo Haddock (15-06.25), and sophomore Dustin Wert (15-06.25) all placed among the top-10 as well.
In the long jump, sophomore Herman Day took sixth (22-05.25) and freshman John Broadhead was eighth with a season-best 21-10.25. Day was also fifth in his flight of the discus, registering a season-best 130-02.
On the track, senior Ryan Colebrook was the top collegiate finisher, and placed third overall, in the 110m hurdles with a time of 14.84 seconds. He came in behind former 49ers Chris Lawson (14.33) and Koree Hines (14.35).
Freshman Patrick Burciago notched a season-best 1:58.65 to come in 11th in the 800m.
Freshman John Kendrick III ran his first 200m of the season and finished in 22.45 seconds (10th). Junior A.J. Elam added a season-best 22.9 (13th).
Long Beach State returns to Jack Rose Track for the 22nd annual Beach Invitational, April 15-16.
NOTES: Attendance for the day was 450 ... There was one stadium record broken on Thursday with Kristen Brown of Chula Vista Elite clearing 14-02 in the women's pole vault ... Two LBSU alums picked up individual victories ... Jason Harrell won the men's discus (183-05), while Chris Lawson took first in the men's 110m hurdles.
