Track & Field Wraps up Action at UCR Spring Classic

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - The Long Beach State track & field team concluded action at the UC Riverside Spring Classic Saturday at UCR Track Stadium.
Senior Michael Montgomery established a meet record in the pole vault as he cleared 17-00.75 to win the event. Sophomore Dustin Wert was also third with a lifetime-best 16-00.75, while junior Bo Haddock took fourth (15-07).
Junior James Hubbard claimed runner-up honors in the discus at 181-03, and was followed by freshman Josh Carr, who was sixth with a distance of 162-02. Junior Robert Marlow threw for a personal-record 52-02.5 to place seventh in the shot put.
On Friday evening, senior Kody Robison picked up his fourth hammer victory in five meets as he topped the competition with a toss of 210-01. Marlow was second at 204-01, and Hubbard completed the trifecta with a third-place showing (203-04). Hubbard's mark is a lifetime best and puts him at No. 6 in school history. All three athletes have established top-10 marks this season and make Long Beach State one of only two schools to have a trio of hammer throwers go for over 200 feet.
On the track, sophomore Kevin Ramirez improved his personal best by nearly six seconds, clocking in at 3:53.57 to come in fourth in the 1500m. Junior George Martinez was also sixth in the 3000m (8:41.08).
Freshman John Kendrick III finished third in the 100m with a season-best 10.74, while redshirt freshman Kemonie Briggs took sixth (10.8). Briggs was also sixth in the 200m with a personal-record 21.96.
Senior Dylan McCloskey was third in the 400m (48.01), and classmate Ryan Colebrook ran a season-best 14.69 for a ninth-place finish in the 110m hurdles.
Briggs, Kendrick, McCloskey and junior Daniel York-Mouton teamed up for a runner-up finish in the 4x100 relay (41.76).
On the women's side, senior Jodi Lambert cleared a personal-record 12-06.75 in the pole vault to move up three spots to No. 4 on the 49er all-time charts. She finished third overall, while sophomore Kennedy Krueger tied for eighth (11-07).
Senior Aundrea Yancy was the runner-up in the high jump (5-05) and took fourth in the triple jump (36-10.25). Both marks were season bests. Freshman Diana Acholonu added a season-best 5-01 to place sixth in the high jump, and senior Nikki Puerner was ninth in the triple jump (34-02.75).
Senior Fatima Vergara was the runner-up in the discus with a toss of 156-05, and she also took third in the shot put with a lifetime-best 47-03.5, which ranks ninth in school history. Freshman Nikaela Harris contributed a fifth-place showing in the discus (146-05) and a seventh-place finish in the shot put (43-00.5).
Freshman Madison Carney registered a personal-best 17-08.25 to place ninth in the long jump.
In the track events, freshman Courtne' Davis won the 200m in a season-best 24.43 seconds. Sophomore Ashleigh Chambers chipped in a 10th-place showing (24.79).
Sophomore Elijah McDonald ran a season-best 14.10 to come in sixth in the 100m hurdles.
Senior Kristina Goosby was fifth in the 100m at 12.02, which was just .03 seconds off her personal best of 11.99, which she established last year.
Senior Brianna Wilson crossed the finish line in a season-best 57.07 for a top-10 finish in the 400m (9th).
Sophomore Brittany Anselmo competed in her first 800m race of the season and clocked in at 2:19.96.
Long Beach State is back in action next weekend when it heads to Northern California for the Stanford Invitational, April 1-2.
