Long Beach, Calif. - A perfect 8-0 day in singles competition headlined a strong day two for Long Beach State at the Beach Tennis Winter Classic on Saturday afternoon. The Beach has yet to see a singles player drop a match during the weekend event, and will face Oregon in singles action to close the weekend on Sunday.

"It was another good day working our game plans against a ranked team that is very familiar with us," said LBSU head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello, who saw her top eight players pick up a clean sweep of conference rivals CSUN, ranked No. 75 in the country.

No. 40 Long Beach State has been consistent over the past two days of action, winning two doubles matches each day and going unbeaten (17-0) in singles. LBSU's No. 1 Maeva Razakasoa had an easier time picking up a win on Saturday, taking down CSUN's Mickey Hsu, 6-1, 6-0. The Beach also had straight-set wins over Matadors at spots 3-5 as Julie Gerard (6-4, 6-0), Hayley Thompson (6-4, 6-3) and Laura Eales (6-2, 6-1) all won fairly comfortably.

Ebba Unden was pushed to three sets at No. 2 singles, but hung on against Vivian Lin with a 7-6 (1), 5-7, 6-2 victory. Georgie Sanders played at No. 6 and had to come back from a 2-6 loss in the opening frame. The freshman composed herself, dropping just one game the rest of the match, going 6-1, 6-0 over Mari Taslagyan.

At doubles, the No. 44 ranked pair of Julia O'Loughlin and Maureen Slattery defended their ranking with a 6-4 win over Long Beach's top pair of Razakasoa and Gerard. However, the Beach did win two of the four matchups in doubles, with Thompson/Eales winning 6-3 and Alex Jones and Ella Monsey winning 6-2.

The teams will compete in the final rotation of competition tomorrow at 10 a.m. with the Beach taking on CSUN in doubles play and No. 62 Oregon in singles.
