Eales Advances To Finals In Day Two At UNLV Invitational

Las Vegas, Nev. - Junior Laura Eales continued her success in the third flight at the UNLV Invitational, advancing to the championship match with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Reka Szentes of the host Rebels in the top highlight of the day for the Beach in day two in Las Vegas.
Eales is set to face Mercedes Lopez of UNLV at 11 a.m. tomorrow in the championship match. The Beach had two other singles winners on the day in consolation play, as Maeva Razakasoa defeated Blanka Szavay of Northern Arizona 6-4, 6-1 in the top flight, while freshman Georgie Sanders dominated Livia Hollosy of the Lumberjacks 6-0, 6-1 to collect her first collegiate singles win.
Julie Gerard also advanced to the consolation finals, joining Razakasoa and Sanders with a walkover in flight two. Long Beach State lost a pair of matches, as Paola Artiga of UNLV won a thrilling match with Hayley Thompson, winning two straight tiebreakers to defeat the junior in the semifinals of flight two. Additionally, Mississippi's Mai El Kamash defeated Ebba Unden 6-4, 6-3,
The 49ers dropped both doubles matches on the day, as Razakasoa and Sanders lost 8-2 to Suk/El Kamash of Mississippi, while Zhu/Moroi of the hosts topped Thompson/Unden 8-5. The first weekend of tournament play concludes tomorrow, with all players continuing in consolation play along with Eales playing for the third flight championship.
