Eales Claims Championship At Final Day Of UNLV Invitational

Las Vegas, Nev. - Junior Laura Eales defeated Mercedes Lopes of the host UNLV Rebels, winning the third flight of singles with a 6-2, 7-6 win in the final day of the UNLV Invitational.
Fellow junior Hayley Thompson finished in third place in flight two, also beating a Rebel, Cristina Moroi 6-2, 6-3. Two other 49ers picked up singles wins on Sunday, as Ebba Unden dropped Blanka Szavay of Northern Arizona of 6-3, 6-1 in flight one, while Antonella Santeusanio defeated Livia Hollosy of NAU 6-2, 6-3 in flight three.
The 49ers had three losses on the day in singles. All three came in the consolation finals, as Mai El Kamash defeated Maeva Razakasoa 6-1, 6-3 in the top flight, Allie Sanford of Ole Miss defeated Julie Gerard 6-4, 6-4 in the second flight, and Paula Sanchez of South Alabama beat Georgie Sanders 6-1, 6-3 in flight three.
The Beach picked up a third-place doubles win in flight one, as Eales and Thompson combined to defeat Meszarosova and Stiteler of South Alabama 8-5. Gerard/Unden fell to Sanchez and Valkova of USA 8-3 in the same flight, while UNLV's Artiga/Lopez defeated Razakasoa/Sanders 8-5.
Long Beach State will participate in the ITA All-American Tournament next week, one of the premiere tournaments of the fall season.
