Beach Track & Field Earns USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

LONG BEACH - Long Beach State track & field had three individuals receive 2015 USTFCCCA All-Academic recognition, while both the men's and women's squads were selected as All-Academic Teams the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association announced on Friday.
The Beach women, who posted a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.04, have received All-Academic Team honors every year since 1997. The LBSU men earned the award for the third-straight season with a 3.01 team GPA.
Victor Martin, Michael Montgomery and Conner Rouse also received individual USTFCCCA All-Academic accolades. To be eligible for all-academic honors, student-athletes must have compiled a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.25 and have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships.
Martin qualified for the NCAA West Preliminary Round in both the shot put and discus. He established a personal-record and the third-best shot put mark in school history at 60-06.75. Martin also finished with a lifetime-best 181-02 in the discus. He was the runner-up in both events at the Big West Championships. Martin graduated with a bachelor's degree in journalism and is now working toward his master's in sport management.
Montgomery advanced to the NCAA Championships where he earned All-America honors in the pole vault. He finished eighth overall at the West Regional and was the Big West champion with a personal-best 17-09. Montgomery was the top collegiate finisher in seven of his nine regular-season competitions. He is an upcoming senior majoring in microbiology.
Rouse picked up his second USTFCCCA All-Academic award as he qualified for the NCAA West Prelims in the pole vault. He finished 28th in the West Region and was the runner-up at the Big West Championships. Rouse registered a top-five finish in six meets with victories at the Cal Opener and Big West Challenge, and cleared a lifetime-best 17-02.75. He is an upcoming senior majoring in graphic design.
Martin, Montgomery and Rouse were also named to the Big West All-Academic Team in June.
