Day Finishes Fifth To Wrap Up Big West Championship Decathlon

RIVERSIDE, Calif. - Long Beach State track & field closes out the first week of the Big West Championships with Herman Day finishing in the top five in the conference and adding on two personal bests.
Day closed out the weekend with 6,394 points, which was a new personal record. Senior Cameron Pizzica placed 11th with 5,913 points.
The 110m hurdles started the day, and Day finished in fifth with a time of 16.02. Pizzica came in 10th with a time of 16.77.
The Discus followed with both athletes finishing in the top 10. Day placed fourth 124-07), and Pizzica placed seventh (107-03).
Pizzica won the pole vault with a 14-09 mark while Day tied for 10th with a mark of 10-10.
In the javelin, Day finished with a 149-04 mark and Pizzica followed with a 149-00 mark.
The 1500m ended the day, and Day earned a new personal best with his time of 5:01.36 to finish fifth. Pizzica closed out the day with a 5:33.79 time.
The Beach continues the Big West Championships with the main events next weekend, May 15-16, at the UC Riverside Track Facility.
