
Beach Tennis Advances With 4-0 Sweep Of Cal Poly

INDIAN WELLS, Calif. -- Top-seeded Long Beach State opened its Big West Tournament title defense with a quick 4-0 sweep of eighth-seeded Cal Poly on Friday. The Beach (16-5) will play the winner of the CSUN/Hawaii match in tomorrow's semifinals.
LBSU quickly captured the doubles points with two wins at the top of the lineup. Ebba Unden and Hayley Thompson defeated Louise Oxnevad and Dane Joubert 8-5 in the No. 1 match to get things started. Karolina Rozenberg and Laura Eales followed with an 8-4 win at No. 2 to clinch the point.
Unden clinched the 49ers next point with the first singles win for the Beach. She clinched the second team point with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 2. Eales followed with a 6-4, 6-0 win at No. 6 to bring the Beach within a point of clinching the match.
With the Beach just one game away from clinching three more singles matches, Julie Gerard was the first to finish up and clinch the match with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 3. Maeva Razakasoa and Hayley Thompson were within a game of also winning their respective matches.
With the 4-0 win, the Beach advances to tomorrow's semifinals and will play at 9 a.m.
