Two 49ers Named to All-MPSF Men's Volleyball Team

LONG BEACH - Juniors Taylor Gregory (Saugus, Calif.) and John La Rusch (Long Beach, Calif.) have been named to the 2015 All-Mountain Pacific Sports Federation Men's Volleyball Team the conference office announced on Thursday. Both Gregory and La Rusch garnered honorable mention recognition.
This is the second career All-MPSF honor for Gregory, who was also an honorable mention selection in 2013. The 6-foot-7 middle blocker ranks first in the conference and second in the country with 1.53 blocks per set. He has totaled six or more blocks on 13 occasions and reached double figures twice. Gregory, who was recently named a finalist for the Off the Block/Springbak National Blocker of the Year award, finished with a career-high and rally-scoring era school record 15 blocks at UC Santa Barbara. Gregory also averaged 1.35 kills per set in MPSF matches.
La Rusch earned his first All-MPSF award after a stellar conference season where he averaged 3.15 kills, 1.54 digs and 0.66 blocks per set. He finished with 16 double-figure kill matches in league play, including a season-long streak of nine-straight heading into the MPSF Tournament. The 6-foot-6 opposite had a career-high 23 kills at UC Irvine, while also registering 22 kills and eight digs vs. CSUN. In addition, La Rusch hit a career-best .688 (12-1-16) at UC San Diego and recorded his first career double-double with 14 kills and 12 digs at UCLA.
Long Beach State begins the postseason with an MPSF Tournament quarterfinal match at Hawai'i on Saturday, April 25. First serve is set for 7:30 p.m. (HT)/10:30 p.m. (PT) at Stan Sheriff Center.
