Savannah Knox Named Big West Conference Freshman Of The Year

EL MACERO, Calif. - Three Long Beach State women's golfers were named to the All-Big West Conference team, it was announced at the conclusion of the Big West Women's Golf Championship at El Macero Country Club on Tuesday afternoon.
Redshirt freshman Savannah Knox was named Big West Freshman of the Year, while junior Kassidy Teare was named First Team All-Big West and Chaewon Park was named to the Second Team All-Big West.
Knox becomes the first 49er to be selected freshman of the year honors since 2009. The San Diego, Calif. native played in nine tournaments this past season, earning her first top-20 finish at the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown where she tied for 11th place with a one-over-par 217. She also collected her first top-five performance at the LBSU-hosted Gold Rush presented by Southern California Ford Dealers at Old Ranch Country Club in Seal Beach. Knox placed fourth at four-over 220, helping LBSU win the team title for the second consecutive year. Knox also helped the 49ers claim the consolation match title at the SDSU Farms Invitational where she finished the match play tournament with a 3-1 record.
For Teare, this marked the second year in a row she has been selected on the All-Big West team. The native from Vista, Calif. was a second-team honoree last season. Teare played in all 11 tournaments for the Beach this past season, collecting an impressive five top-10 finishes. She recorded her best performance as a 49er this past spring at The Gold Rush, where she finished runner-up and was just one shot behind first place. Teare also posted an impressive performance at the SDSU Farms Invitational where she finished the tournament at 3-1.
Park closes out her four-year career at LBSU having played in all 11 tournaments this past season. The Torrance, Calif. native recorded two top-10 performances and one top-20. She posted a season-best third-place at The Gold Rush and tied for fifth at the Ron Moore Intercollegiate in Colorado. Park was an Honorable Mention All-Big West in 2013.
