
Beach Tennis Closes Regular Season With Sweep Of BYU

LONG BEACH, Calif. -- The No. 41 Long Beach State women's tennis team heads into the postseason on a hot streak with its second consecutive sweep of the week. Beach Tennis defeated BYU 7-0 on Senior Day to end the regular season with a 15-5 record.
Senior Karolina Rozenberg was celebrated before the match as the 49ers' lone senior and responded with two dominant wins. She won 6-2, 6-0 at No. 5 singles and teamed up with Laura Eales for a big 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles. With the postseason still to come, Rozenberg has 92 career singles wins and 82 career doubles win. She is the fourth-winningest players in Beach Tennis history.
BYU (9-12) surrendered the No. 3 doubles match and the No. 6 singles match with only five players available. Ebba Unden and Hayley Thompson completed the doubles sweep with a 6-4 win at No. 1.
Thompson did not drop a singles game this week with another 6-0, 6-0 win in the No. 4 singles match. She won by the same shutout score against UC Riverside yesterday. Unden won the No. 2 match 6-0, 7-6 (7-1) to complete the Beach's second sweep.
Maeva Razakasoa clinched the match for the Beach with a 6-4, 6-3 win in the No. 1 match over BYU's Nicolette Tran. Julie Gerard followed with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 3.
The Beach heads to Indian Wells, Calif. next week for the Big West Tournament with an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament on the line. The Beach will be the top seed in the tournament and face the winner of the play-in match between the eighth and ninth seeds.
