
Another Upset For Razakasoa In Sunday Beach Win

LONG BEACH, Calif. - Maeva Razakasoa pulled off another nationally-ranked upset and the No. 41 Long Beach State women's tennis team improved to 5-0 with a 5-2 win over San Francisco. The Beach scored the first four points of the match to quickly claim its fifth straight win to open the season.
Razakasoa, ranked 99th in the nation, beat No. 51 Andrea Ka in straight sets 6-4, 6-2 for the upset victory at No. 1. Karolina Rozenberg stayed undefeated on the season as her opponent retired after Rozenberg went up 3-0 in the first set in singles.
Ebba Unden sealed the win over San Francisco (3-3) as she cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 2. Julie Gerard also won 6-4, 6-0 at No. 4 and also remained undefeated on the season.
Rozenberg started the deal with an 8-3 win at No. 1 doubles with teammate Laura Eales. The win was the 150th career victory for Rozenberg, launching her into the upper echelon of the Long Beach State record books. Unden and Hayley Thompson won 8-2 at No. 2 doubles while Razakasoa and Gerard teamed up for the 8-6 win at No. 3 to secure the doubles sweep.
With the match already decided, Thompson pushed nationally-ranked player Marina Nikolic into a third set but ultimately fell in the 10-point tiebreaker 6-4, 4-6, 1-0 (10-2). Eales also went into a third set in the No. 6 match but retired while trailing in the third set 6-1, 3-6, 2-0.
The Beach returns to action next week as they host Cal Poly on Saturday at 11 a.m.
