
Beach Tennis Defeats Cal Poly For Sixth Straight Win

LONG BEACH, Calif. - The No. 40 Long Beach State tennis team made it six wins in a row to start the 2015 season with a quick 6-1 win over Cal Poly on Saturday. Both Karolina Rozenberg and Julie Gerard improved to 12-0 in dual matches while the Beach improved to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in the Big West.
Rozenberg teamed up with Laura Eales for the 8-4 win at No. 1 to start the match and a Beach sweep of the doubles matches. Gerard was the next winner with Maeva Razakasoa as the pair won 8-3 at No. 3. Ebba Unden and Hayley Thompson completed the doubles sweep with an 8-6 win at No. 2 over Cal Poly's Dane Joubert and Louise Oxnevad.
The Beach clinched the match over the Mustangs (1-6, 0-1 Big West) quickly with a few straight set singles wins. Thompson was the first to emerge victorious with the 6-2, 6-0 love at No. 3. Rozenberg quickly followed with a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 5 and Gerard clinched the team win with a 6-3, 6-2 win at No. 4.
Razakasoa and Unden also won in straight sets to continue the Beach domination. Unden won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 and Razakasoa took the No. 1 match 6-3, 6-4. Cal Poly's Zoe Oldekerk avoided the sweep for the Mustangs win with a three-set win over Eales at No. 6.
The Beach will take its season-opening win streak on the road next to northern California for a pair of matches with Sacramento State and UC Davis.
