Beach Tennis Opens Play At Jack Kramer Collegiate

Rolling Hills Estates, Calif. - Long Beach State opened play at the Jack Kramer Collegiate Tournament on Thursday at nearby Jack Kramer Tennis Club. It was a tough opening day for the Beach going up against a tough field from across the country.
Laura Eales, Hayley Thompson and Maeva Razakasoa each picked up singles victories, but Eales lost her second singles match of the day to move into the consolation bracket. Thompson won her only singles match of the day against Big West rival Taylor LeFridge of UC Irvine, 6-3, 6-2. Razakasoa also played just one match following a first round bye, and she beat Baylor's Gabriela Ferreira 4-6, 6-1, 10-5 to advance.
Thompson and Razakasoa are the two 49ers still alive in the main draw and will face Sophie Watts (Fresno State) and Matea Cutura (Pepperdine), respectively, in Friday's Round of 32 action.
Long Beach earned just one doubles victory on day one as Razakasoa and Julie Gerard soundly defeated Perez/Crespo from LMU. All three of the LBSU pairs would suffer defeat in the Round of 32, sending them to the consolation bracket where the team of Ebba Unden and Georgie Sanders is already in the quarterfinals after an opponent withdrawal.
Action resumes Friday morning with plenty of doubles and singles action on tap throughout the day.
