Long Beach, Calif. - San Francisco Giants third baseman Matt Duffy was selected as the 2015 Willie Mac Award winner, given since 1980 to the most inspirational player in the Willie McCovey tradition.

Voted on by teammates and coaches, the Willie Mac Award is taken very seriously within the organization, which lends additional weight that Duffy was chosen in his first full season with the club.

With two games left in the season, Duffy is flirting with hitting .300 on the year, and has hit 12 home runs while driving in 76 RBI.

"Whoever wins it should be honored," said manager Bruce Bochy, "because it's voted on by your teammates and coaches. It goes to someone they respect, a guy they look up to as far as how they play the game, a guy who fires them up sometimes. It's always nice to be honored by your peers."
