Teare Finishes Runner-Up At Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown

BOULDER CITY, Nev. - For the second straight day, Long Beach State senior Kassidy Teare fired a six-under-par 66 in Tuesday's final round of the Las Vegas Collegiate Showdown to finish runner-up at Boulder Creek Golf Club.
Teare came up just short of claiming her second tournament title in two weeks as she finished two strokes behind individual medalist Anna Newell (-18) of Tennessee.
Teare completed the three-day, 54-hole tournament at 16-under 200, breaking the previous three-day program record score by nine shots. Former LBSU All-American Kay Hoey posted a record 209 that was set in 2004 at the Ptarmigan Ram Fall Classic in Fort Collins, Colo.
Teare started off her final day similar to her second round as she recorded her only bogey for the day on her second hole of the round on the par-three 12th. After posting her only bogey, Teare picked up three birdies and three pars to make the turn onto the front-nine at two-under. She would go bogey-free on her next 10 holes, collecting four additional birdies, including back-to-back birdies on her last two holes to end the day at six-under.
LBSU finished in 15th after recording a final round score of 287 to finish the tournament at 10-under 854.
Tournament host No. 22 UNLV and No. 39 Vanderbilt shared the team title at 33-under 831 as the Rebels and Commodores held off third-place No. 21 San Diego State (-30) by three shots.
Redshirt sophomore Savannah Knox shot a 73 for a 54-hole score of four-under 212, tying for 31st.
Sophomore Jennifer Yu recorded her best round of the tournament with a 73 to tie for 86th at six-over 222.
Senior Janelle Sua and sophomore Felicia Taverrite tied for 91st at seven-over 223. Sua carded a high round 76, while Taverrite posted a 75.
LBSU returns to action on Sunday, Feb. 14 for the Delta Gamma Challenge at Landa Park Golf Course in Braunfels, Texas.
