LBSU Opens Spring Season In Fourth Place In Texas

NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas - The Long Beach State women's golf team kicked off the spring season with a strong first day performance at the All There August Challenge as the 49ers finished the day in fourth-place.
LBSU compiled a two-round score of 19-over-par 587 after posting scores of 300 and 287. The 49ers are just one-shot behind UTSA (+18) in third and five strokes behind Sam Houston State (+14) in second.
Middle Tennessee leads the field of 15 teams by four shots with a 10-over 578.
Senior All-American candidate Kassidy Teare led the way for the Beach, tying for seventh with a four-over 146. After carding an opening round score 78 to tie for 43rd, the Vista, Calif. native came back with a vengeance with a 10-shot improvment for a 68. Teare recorded a bogey-free second round scorecard that was highlighted by three birdies and 15 pars.
Sophomore Felicia Taverrite and freshman Haley Tygret posted impressive performances as both players are tied for 15th at six-over 148. Taverrite carded her first career round under par with a one-under 70 to finish in second after the opening round. Tygret, playing in her first collegiate tournament, posted rounds of 76 and 72.
Redshirt sophomore Savannah Knox is tied for 26th at eight-over 150 (77-73), while sophomore Jennifer Yu is tied for 33rd at nine-over (77-74).
Julie Houston of UTSA, playing as an individual, sits on top of the leaderboard of 78 players at four-under 138, as she holds a three stroke lead over Sarah Black of Sam Houston State.
