
Razakasoa Moves On At ITA All-American Tournament

PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Sophomore Maeva Razakasoa pulled off a 6-4, 6-3 upset in the first round and then won 6-4, 6-4 in the second round to advance in the ITA All-American Tournament Pre-Qualifying Rounds.
The Big West Player of the Year received a tough draw with a seeded opponent in the first round but took care of the upset in straight sets to move on. Razakasoa's upset came over Duke's Alyssa Smith, who is ranked 109th nationally. With the win, Razakasoa moved on to face Stefania Hristov of Texas A&M in the afternoon.
Hristov easily won her first round match 6-2, 6-1 but it was Razakasoa who seized the momentum of her first win to move on to the quarterfinals. She defeated Hristov in straight sets 6-4, 6-4.
Razakasoa set up a showdown in tomorrow's quarterfinal with a bid to the Qualifying Rounds of the tournament on the line. Razakasoa's opponent is still to be determined but will be updated on LongBeachState.com when available.
UPDATE: Razakasoa will play Mississippi's Mai El Kamash at 12:30 p.m. on the Sycamore Courts on Sunday. El Kamash upset sixth-seeded Tristen Dewar of Clemson.
