LONG BEACH, Calif. - A scoreless first half didn't deter the Long Beach State women's water polo team from securing its first Big West victory of the season. The Beach came back in the second half for a 5-4 win over UC Davis on Sunday.
Kayla Robert scored the game-winning goal with just 1:49 left on the clock in the fourth quarter. The goal completed the second half comeback and came with LBSU (17-8, 1-1 Big West) in a 6-on-5 situation. UC Davis (11-15, 0-4 Big West) had tied up the match earlier in the fourth after a Beach outburst in the third.
Long Beach State scored four goals in the third quarter, led by a pair of goals from Christina Kotsia, to unravel the Aggies hold on the contest. Coriann Snyder and Chelsea Parks also scored in the third to help the Beach take a 4-3 lead into the final quarter.
Both teams went scoreless in the first quarter but UC Davis was able to scratch out the first goal of the match in the second quarter for the halftime lead.
Long Beach State will travel to Cal State Northridge on Saturday before hosting UC Santa Barbara next Sunday at noon for Senior Day.
