LONG BEACH, Calif. - A strong weekend for the Long Beach State women's tennis team wrapped up on Sunday with Karolina Rozenberg winning her singles flight, and the duo of Ebba Unden and Laura Eales winning a doubles flight.
Unden and Eales were the first to capture a finals win with an 8-2 win over a CSUN duo in Doubles Flight 2. In the first doubles flight, Julie Gerard teamed up with Rozenberg to reach the finals but the duo fell 8-5 this morning.
"It was a really strong weekend for us. Not only did we post a lot of wins, but we saw a lot of improvement in our play from the tournament two weeks ago in Las Vegas," noted head coach Jenny Hilt-Costello.
Rozenberg reversed her luck in her singles final of Singles Flight 3. With the sun beating down for the third day, she defeated Air Force's Tracy Landram 6-4, 6-4 to capture the finals win. Eales also saw her fate reversed in singles after capturing the win in her doubles flight. Anna Romeka from LMU defeated Eales 6-0, 6-3 for the only Beach singles loss of the weekend.
Maeva Razakasoa and Hayley Thompson ended their weekend on a winning note as well with an 8-4 win in an added doubles match.
With the weekend complete, the Beach posted a combined 29-3 record in its home tournament. The finals of the first and second singles flights were not played as two Beach players reached each final.
The fall season wraps up with the ITA Southwest Regionals in San Diego, Calif., which begin on Oct. 16.
