
Softball Posts Two Wins at San Diego State Classic

Long Beach State (9-6) posted two wins on the opening day of the San Diego State Classic I, defeating Boise State 6-2 and the Aztecs 5-3 on Friday. Emily Gregorio hit the game-winning RBI against SDSU to lift the 49ers to victory in the second game of the day.
LBSU 6, Boise State 2
After a scoreless second inning for both teams, the 49ers added another two runs in the third as a double by Nalani St. Germain brought in Hannah De Gaetano to put The Beach up 3-0. In the fourth inning, a single by Kimbrough brought in Ashley Holmes, pushing the 49er lead to 4-0. St. Germain then hit a solo homerun in the top of the fifth, putting LBSU up 5-0.
Boise State finally got on the board in the bottom of the fifth after a single brought in a Bronco runner, but Erin Jones-Wesley was able to get out of the inning giving up just one run. The 49ers answered with a solo homer by Ashley Holmes to go back up five runs, leading 6-1 in the top of the sixth. With the Broncos back on offense and bases loaded, Jones-Wesley hit a batter, bringing home a Boise State run (6-2). Jones-Wesley was able to strike out the next batter, ending the inning.
After Jones-Wesley gave up a single to start the bottom of the seventh, Amanda Hansen was brought into close the game. Hansen was able to get out of the inning without giving up any runs, giving the 49ers the victory over Boise State 6-2.
Kimbrough and St. Germain led the team with three hits each on four at bats, while St. Germain led the team with two RBI.
LBSU 5, San Diego State 4
San Diego State was able to tie the game in the top of the fourth, but the 49ers broke the tie with a solo home run by Darian Tautalafua as LBSU led 3-2 heading into the fifth inning. SDSU answered to tie the game at 3 after a fielding error. They then scored the go-ahead run in the top of the sixth.
The 49ers loaded the bases in the bottom of the sixth and after a single by Gregorio, Tautalafua and St. Germain were able to score, putting LBSU back in the lead (5-4). Carbajal then knocked out the final three batters for the Aztecs to give the Beach the win.
On Saturday, the 49ers will face New Mexico at 9:00 am as they continue play in the San Diego State Classic I.
