LONG BEACH, Calif. - Sophomore Erin Jones-Wesley has been named the Big West Conference Pitcher of the Week after leading Long Beach State to two of its three wins last weekend. Jones-Wesley's award is the 10th of her career, and her fourth this season.
Jones-Wesley (Alta Loma, Calif./Los Osos HS) went 2-0 in a three-game sweep of UC Riverside in Big West Conference action to help the 49ers remain tied for first place. She threw back-to-back two-hit shutouts in leading LBSU to a 1-0 win on Saturday and a 6-0 win on Sunday. In the first game, she struck out nine while walking just one. She followed that with a six strikeout performance on Sunday. For the week, Jones-Wesley allowed just four hits in 14 innings, while striking out 15 Highlanders. The 49er right-hander also ran her consecutive scoreless inning streak to 19.1, and her streak without giving up an earned run to 29 innings.
Jones-Wesley will lead Long Beach State (23-22, 11-4 Big West) against Cal State Fullerton on the road this weekend in a crucial three-game series. The 49ers and Titans will battle in a doubleheader that will be broadcast on ESPNU on Saturday starting at 2:30 p.m. The two teams will also play a single game on Sunday with a 12 p.m. first pitch.
