TARZANA, Calif. - After two rounds of play at the Bruin Wave Invitational at El Caballero Country Club in Tarzana, the Long Beach State women's golf team finished day one in ninth place.
LBSU recorded an opening round score of 319 to place 10th. The 49ers came back in the afternoon session, improving by four shots for a second round 315 for a 36-hole score of 58-over-par 634.
Sophomore Rochelle Chan led the way for LBSU after shooting a 75 and 76 to finish at 7-over 151 to tie for ninth.
Senior Monica Villarreal is tied for 39th at 13-over 157 after carding rounds of 79 and 78, while junior Simone Hoey is tied for 50th (+18) after recording rounds of 80 and 82.
Freshman Chaewon Park is tied for 56th at 20-over (85-79) and senior Noelle Zavaleta is tied for 68th at 26-over (85-85)
Christine Wong of San Diego State sits on top of the leaderboard of 80 players with a 3-under 141 as she holds a two-shot lead going into the final round.
Tournament co-host Pepperdine leads the field of 15 teams at 12-over 588 as the Waves holds an 11-stroke lead over second-place Oklahoma State (+23).
Final round action concludes on Tuesday with the 49ers starting off at 9:10 a.m. from the 10th tee.
