Villarreal, Chan finish in top-10 at Folino Invitational

INDUSTRY, Calif. - Monica Villarreal shot a 1-over-par 72 in Tuesday's final round of the Folino Invitational to finish in fifth place and help lead Long Beach State to place third in the final team standings.
This is Villarreal's second top-10 finish this year and seventh overall in her career. The senior from Yorba Linda turned in her best round of the tournament to finish at 11-over 224.
LBSU recorded its best round of the tournament with a 302 to finish at 66-over 918. The 49ers finished eight strokes behind second-place and tournament host Cal State Fullerton (+58) and 21 shots behind team champion Gonzaga (+45).
Villarreal began the final round with a par on the par-3 17th hole and would record her first of five bogeys for the day on the 18th. She would go onto post six pars of her next nine holes and collect two of her four birdies on the 4th and 6th holes. Villarreal closed out the front-nine at 1-under, but would lose three strokes on the back with a 2-over.
Sophomore Rochelle Chan carded the same identical score from Monday's second round of 75 to finish at 14-over 227, tying her for eighth-place. This was is Chan's second top-10 finish this year and fourth overall in her career. Chan recorded 13 pars and one birdie for the round.
Junior Simone Hoey recorded a 75 for a 19-over 232, finishing in 18th for her third top-20 finish this season and fifth overall.
Senior Noelle Zavaleta moved up three spots in the standings to tie for 25th as she turned in another 80 to finish at 25-over 238 and sophomore Ashley Greer improved by one stroke with an 82 to finish at 33-over, tying her for 47th.
Freshman Bow-Kay Salotti, playing as an individual, posted an 81 to finish at 28-over 241, tying for 33rd.
Tara Green of Montana who led after the second round with a tournament low 68, captured individual medalist with a 7-over 220. Green won by one-stroke over Taylor Fowler of Cal State Fullerton and Alice Kim of Gonzaga.
LBSU returns to action on Monday, Mar. 5, as they travel to the San Fernando Valley for the two-day Bruin Wave Invitational hosted by UCLA and Pepperdine at the El Caballero Country Club in Tarzana.
