Las Vegas, Nev. - Anais Dallara and Rachel Manasse both reached the semifinals in the top flight of the UNLV Invitational, highlighting the first day of action in Las Vegas, which only featured singles competition.

Dallara, seeded fourth in the top flight, won both of her matches in the main draw to advance, outlasting Abby Guthrie of Mississippi 5-7, 6-4, 7-5 before defeating Nives Pavlovich of UNLV 7-5, 7-5 to move into the semifinals.

Meanwhile, Manasse won an excellent match over No. 117 Aleksandra Josifoska, beating the third seed in the draw and advancing to the quarterfinals, where she dominated Manon Sylvain of New Mexico State in a 6-1, 6-0 victory.

Freshman Laura Bernard also competed in flight one, pushing Sarah Pham to three sets before falling 6-4, 4-6, 6-1. She was then forced to retire while winning her match against Bettina Botha in the back draw due to 100+ degree temperatures.

Long Beach State found similar success in the other flights, as all three of the other 49ers remained alive in the main draw. Sarah Cantlay defeated Morgan Bechtel of Florida Gulf Coast in comeback fashion winning 5-7, 7-5, 6-4 in a tough match, while Anna Jeczmionka had a flawless performance to also advance to the semifinals in flight two, winning 6-0, 6-0 over Paige Keating of Mississippi.

In flight three, Long Beach State's other newcomer, Karolina Rozenberg, picked up her first win of the season by defeating Ella Bourchier of UNLV 6-3, 6-3.

That trio also played in three extra matches since their draws only included eight members apiece. Matched up against Mississippi in all three, the 49ers lost the set, though Jeczmionka pushed Erin Stephens to three sets in a 7-5, 4-6, 6-0 loss.

Doubles play at UNLV begins tomorrow, while five 49ers will continue with semifinal matches in the main draw on Saturday, September 24.
