Can you detail your coaching path to Long Beach State? It's more like a long and windy road! I started in California where I coached high school swimming and water polo before moving to Boston where I assisted the men's and women's water polo teams at Harvard for a few seasons. I later started up and then coached the women's team at the New York Athletic Club. From 2007-2010, I was off the deck but working full time for USA Water Polo until I finally returned to the West Coast and my alma mater, Long Beach State.
Beyond winning a championship, what are your goals for the upcoming season? Reinvigorate the aquatic alumni, create an event that will become a fundraising tradition and cultivate a supportive environment within the Long Beach community.
Who is an exciting new player we will see on your team next season? Joey Fabian is an incoming high school All-American who will immediately spark the offense and Justine Morgan was a southern California CIF standout who is not afraid to shoot.
What is your recruiting philosophy? When recruiting athletes to represent our programs. I look for an ease of personality and ask myself if this is a person I can see myself spending four-to-five years traveling and training with? The athletes should be asking themselves the same thing of me.
How important are the summer months to the development of your team? The summer months are extremely important.
If someone asked you for a recommendation where to eat in the Long Beach area, where would you to them to go? I am a fan of Open Sesame.
Outside of coaching and sports, what are your hobbies? I enjoy walking/running my rad dog, reading and coordinating events.
If you had a weekend off during the season and you weren't allowed to work, what would you do with the free time? I would go beach camping.
What vacation spot has been your favorite to visit? The Caribbean was a favorite, but I suspect that if I ever go to Australia, I won't come back.
Dodgers or Angels, and why? Lakers or Clippers, and why? I am a Phillies fan, for baseball, and I cheer for all basketball teams.
