Long Beach State beats second Big West foe at Triton Invitational; Tops No. 13 CS Northridge 10-7

San Diego, Calif. - Three Long Beach State players scored a pair of goals, and the 49ers scored five goals in a third-period spurt to defeat Cal State Northridge 10-7 in the third game for LBSU at the Triton Invitational. The 49ers conclude their time in San Diego with an afternoon game against No. 11 UC Irvine for fifth place at the 16-team tournament.
Long Beach State took an early lead in the first period, jumping out in front 2-1 after the first quarter. The Matadors rallied with three goals in the second period to take a 4-3 lead going into halftime.
It was the 49ers that seized the momentum out of the break, however, outscoring Cal State Northridge 5-1 with some third period fireworks to seize control of the game. Both teams scored a pair of goals in the fourth period as Long Beach State maintained its three-goal lead to take the win.
The 49ers finish the Triton Invitational with the fifth-place game, scheduled to start at 3:10 p.m. on Sunday afternoon against No. 11 UC Irvine.
