Dunbar highlights Don Kirby Invitational with NCAA Provisional qualifying mark

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - Colin Dunbar notched an NCAA Provisional qualifying mark in the weight throw to highlight the Long Beach State track and field team's performance at the Don Kirby Invitational Friday evening.
Dunbar won the event with a personal-record 65-00.75, which also ranks him second on the 49er all-time charts. He added a fourth-place performance in the shot put (56-06).
Rajan Bains finished fourth in the weight throw with a lifetime-best and the fourth-longest mark in school history (58-03.75), while Jacob Weintraub was sixth in the shot put (53-05.75).
Richard Crawford had a strong day on the track as he took fourth in the 200m with a personal-best 21.88. He also ran the sixth-fastest time in 49er history in the 60m dash (7.02), while helping the 4x400 relay squad to a third-place finish. The quartet of Chris Sweeney, Christopher Lawson, Crawford and Sam Jeter finished just behind Ohio State and Texas with a mark of 3:15.48.
Nimrod Piggee added a sixth-place performance in the 60m hurdles, crossing the finish line in a season-best 8.22 seconds.
On the women's side, Shakina Phillips set a school record in the prelims of the 60m hurdles with a time of 8.74 seconds. In the finals, Phylicia Johnson topped that mark as she finished third overall, clocking in at 8.69. Phillips also matched her prelim time to place fourth.
Katrina Graves-Johnson took fourth in the high jump, equaling her indoor best of 5-08. Janelle Coulter and Stephanie Armstrong finished sixth and seventh, respectively, as both cleared 5-05.
Cheryl Smith and Katelyn Beighton tied for 15th in the pole vault (11-04.25). It was a personal record for Smith.
Jillian Weir was LBSU's top finisher in the shot put, placing sixth overall with a distance of 45-05. That mark ranks her fourth in school history.
In the weight throw, Shari Harris and Ramiah Rhay took fifth and sixth, respectively. Harris established a lifetime-best 51-00.75 (sixth in school history), while Rhay registered a distance of 50-00.
The 49er distance runners will compete in the Flotrack Husky Classic on Saturday, Feb. 12, in Seattle, Wash.
