Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State picked up its first two homers of the season from Joey Terdoslavich and Kellen Hoime, but gave up three to the Trojans as USC defeated the Dirtbags 10-5.

The Dirtbags got on the board in the bottom of the second inning with three consecutive hits. Steve Tinoco led off the inning with a single, and after a double by TJ Mittlestaedt scored the team's first run, Terdoslavich cracked his first home run of the season to give Long Beach State a 3-0 lead.

USC answered with a big inning in the top of the third. After a walk and a single to start the inning, Alex Sherrod hit a three-run home run to tie the game at three. The inning continued with a double and an error, and after a walk put another runner on, Ashton Kent hit another three-run shot to get USC in the lead 7-3.

Two more unearned runs in the fourth gave USC a 9-3 lead, and despite a solo home run by Hoime, USC maintained the lead through the rest of the way in a 10-5 victory.

Branden Pinder took the loss for Long Beach State, while Eddie Magallon threw five innings of relief, giving up four hits and one earned run. Chris Mezger picked up the win for USC, throwing 4.2 innings of one-run relief.

Long Beach State returns to Blair Field on Wednesday, March 3 as the Dirtbags step out of regular play to take on a Japanese traveling team from Waseda University. The Dirtbags will break out the wood bats and play nine starting at 6:30 p.m.
