ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. - The Long Beach State women's golf team is in fifth place after 18-holes on Monday at the Lamkin Grip Invitational at Cypress Ridge Golf Course (par-73, 6,215 yards) in Arroyo Grande.
LBSU shot a combined score of 315 to remain just 11-shots back behind first-place UC Riverside. The Highlanders leads the field of 17-teams with a 304 and holds a six-stroke lead over second-place Northern Arizona (310) and 10-shots over Fresno State and Southern Utah in a third-place tie.
Sophomore Simone Hoey and freshman Rochelle Chan were the top players for the 49ers in Monday's opening round, scoring a 78 to tie for 19th.
Senior Lindsey McAtee finished third for The Beach recording a 79 to tie for 26th, while junior Monica Villarreal carded an 80 to tie for 30th. Senior Reina Rogers is tied for 37th with an 81.
Amelia Ek of UC Riverside sits on top of the leaderboard at 1-under 72, holding a one-stroke lead over teammate Denyse Neville.
Final round action concludes on Tuesday with the 49ers teeing off at 8:36 a.m. with Southern Utah and Sacramento State.
