
49ers places third at Lamkin Grip Invitational

ARROYO GRANDE, Calif. - The Long Beach State women's golf team recorded a final round score of 302 to finish in third place at the 17-team Lamkin Grip Invitational in Arroyo Grande.
LBSU improved by 13-strokes from Monday's opening round at the par-73, 6,215-yard Cypress Ridge Golf Course to move up in the standings from fifth. The 49ers completed the two-day, 36-hole tournament at 617.
Northern Arizona captured the team championship with a 612 (310-302) as the Lumberjacks held a three-shot lead over second-place Fresno State. Tournament host Cal Poly finished tied for sixth with Sacramento State with a 631.
Senior Lindsey McAtee fired an even-73 in Tuesday's final round to move up in the standings from 26th to tie for fifth. McAtee recorded four birdies, two bogeys and one double-bogey, improving by six-strokes after recording a 79 in the opening round.
Freshman Rochelle Chan carded a 75, improving by three-strokes for a 153. Chan moved up from 19th to tie for 10th.
Sophomore Simone Hoey tied for 16th, after shooting a 77 (155), while junior Monica Villarreal and senior Reina Rogers tied for 26th. Both Villarreal and Rogers improved in the final round with scores of 78 and 77 respectively to finish with a 158.
Alexa Kim of Northern Arizona earned individual medalist honors after playing in a three-way playoff shooting a 73 to finish with a 150.
LBSU, which concluded its fall season with the Lamkin Grip Invitational, will return to action on Feb. 14-15, hosting The Gold Rush at Yorba Linda Country Club in Yorba Linda.
