Long Beach, Calif. - John Hill was three-for-four to lead Long Beach State Tuesday, but the visiting San Diego State Aztecs had the answer for every Dirtbag challenge in a 4-3 loss.

Jordan Casas was two-for-five with a double and a steal to help complement Hill's effort, but the Aztecs got the outs when they needed them most as Long Beach State stranded 13 batters. Reliever Jeff Lease did most of the work for the bullpen in relief, pitching four innings and allowing two hits.

San Diego State got on the board in the first inning when Brandon Meredith homered with a runner on to take a 2-0 lead. Long Beach State answered with one run in the bottom half of the inning as Steve Tinoco's sacrifice fly scored Jordan Casas from third.

The Dirtbags tied the game in the fourth. Taylor Krick started the inning with a leadoff walk, and after advancing on groundout from Tre Dennis, Derek Legg singled to even the game at 2-2.

San Diego State regained the lead after the Aztecs' second home run of the day, a solo shot by Cory Vaughn in the sixth.

Long Beach State was again able to tie the game in the eighth inning on a sacrifice by Taylor Krick after leadoff singles from Brennan Metzger and John Hill.

San Diego State again answered with a run in the ninth after a leadoff walk, and a Dirtbag rally in the ninth was stopped by closer Addison Reed after early trouble in the inning.

Long Beach State continues Big West play this weekend, getting an early start to the series because of Easter. The Dirtbags will travel to UC Irvine for three games, starting on Thursday, April 9 at 6 p.m.
