Beach men lose five-set heartbreaker at BYU

PROVO, Utah - Dean Bittner had a team-high 27 kills but it wasn't enough as the Long Beach State 49ers dropped a 30-22, 25-30, 28-30, 30-28, 15-7 at BYU on Friday night in a Mountain Pacific Sports Federation match.
The Beach (10-9, 7-7 MPSF) fell behind early losing the first set, but rallied to take a 2-1 lead before losing the last two sets. The two teams will meet again Saturday night in Provo with the game being broadcast live on BYU-TV which can be seen on both DirecTV and Dish Network.
Bittner finished the match with a .321 hitting percentage in the loss. Josh Riley added 15 kills, while freshman Jim Baughman chipped in 10 kills. Mike Klipsch finished with 60 assists and Dustin Watten had 11 digs.
Kent Tuttle led BYU (12-8, 8-5 MPSF) with 18 kills and a .424 hitting percentage.
