Dirtbags Roll To Big Win Over San Diego

Long Beach, Calif. - Tre Dennis reached base six times, hit his first home run of the season and drove in four runs to lead Long Beach State as the Dirtbags pounded their way to a 17-3 win over San Diego. Jonathan Jones and Kellen Hoime joined Dennis with three hits as Long Beach State posted their highest run total of the year.
San Diego got on the board first, taking advantage of a leadoff double from Kevin Muno. Muno would steal third base, and come around to score on an RBI single from Steve Chatwood.
After giving up two hits in the first inning, Jeff Lease took command, earning his first win of the season, pitching five strong innings, striking out six and allowing just the lone run.
Offensively, Long Beach State would take over from there and never look back. The Dirtbags took the lead over San Diego in the second. Steve Tinoco led off the inning with a triple, followed by RBI singles from Kellen Hoime and Jonathan Jones. Long Beach State would score two more after a Tre Dennis double, making the score 4-1 at the end of two.
Long Beach State added six more runs in the bottom of the third. Tinoco again led off the inning with a hit, and then with the bases loaded, Matt Avery cleared the bases with a double starting the big inning.
Taylor Krick homer in fourth started off three-run inning inning in the fourth, and a Kellen Hoime double would key a three-run fifth, putting The Beach ahead 16-1. Dennis would add his solo homer in the seventh, while San Diego would tack on two consolation runs in the ninth inning.
Long Beach State will stay at Blair Field this weekend, hosting Washington State for three games. First pitch for Friday night's game is scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
