Long Beach, Calif. - Long Beach State Track and Field has announced the signing of BJ Triplett (Hayward, Calif.) and Ashley Campbell (Carson, Calif.) for the 2008-09 track and field season. Both athletes are specialists in the short sprints.
Triplett comes to the Beach from sprint powerhouse Laney CC, where she was a member of the State Championship 4x100m relay team that took first place by over a second with a time of 45.02 seconds. She also took three additional top four finishes in the 100m, 200m, and 4x400m relay team.
She is joined out on the track by Ashley Campbell, a freshman graduating from Valley Christian High School. Ranking in the top ten in California girls' seniors in both short sprints, her 12.03 second time in the 100m ranked seventh, and her 24.72 in the 200m was ninth. "Ashley will have an immediate impact on both relays, in her open events, and in the classroom as she has proven to be a great student," said LBSU head coach Andy Sythe.
With the announcement of the two sprinters, Long Beach State has now added 11 athletes for the 2008-09 recruiting class. The final group of signees will be released later this week.
