IRVINE--Long Beach State senior Brandon Godfrey (Los Alamitos) made sure his final week of the regular season was a memorable on, as the Dirtbag corner infielder batted .553 last week (8-for-15) in leading the Dirtbags to the co-Big West Championship, automatic berth into the NCAA Tournament and hosting duties for the first rounds at Blair Field starting on Friday. The week also earned his third career Big West Player of the Week honor, and first since two in 2007.

Godfrey had multi-hit games in three of the four games, a Monday win over Oregon State and a series win over No. 6-ranked CS Fullerton this past weekend, raising his average 34 points to .269.

A career .300 hitter, entering the season, Godfrey finished off the conference season batting .364 in 18 conference games.

Godfrey with three career Big West Player of the Week awards, joins teammates Danny Espinosa and Shane Peterson and Major League third baseman Evan Longoria as the only LBSU position players to earn the award three times.

The Dirtbags (37-19) will play Fresno State on Friday to open up NCAA Regional play at Blair Field at 6 p.m., as the team moved up to No. 11 nationally in Collegiate Baseball, No. 19 in the Coaches Poll and No. 22 in Baseball America. The regional also features San Diego, ranked as high as No. 6 nationally and No. 17-ranked California.
