Box Score

Long Beach, Calif. - Ashley Weber's second-inning RBI triple was the difference in a great pitching battle between Brooke Turner and Alyce Jorgensen to end the regular season as the 49ers prevailed 1-0.

Turner outdueled Joregensen, who allowed just three hits but gave up the unearned run on the game's only extra-base hit. Long Beach State's freshman star extended her own shutout record with her 17th of the year, and also tied her sister Michelle for the program's win record after improving to 26-4 on the year.

Striking out seven batters, Turner benefitted from error-free defense behind her, scattering four hits on the way to the win.

Long Beach State's lone run came in the second inning. Danielle Linke started the inning by reaching on an error from shortstop Nicole Matson, and designated player Ashley Weber smacked the game's only hard-hit ball, a gapper that rolled to the wall to score Linke on a stand-up triple for the junior. Jorgensen worked her way out of trouble with two strikeouts however, to get through the inning.

The biggest threat on the day for the 49ers came in the top of the fifth inning. Karie Wilson led off the inning with a walk, and after a strikeout, Lauren Sandelin singled to give the Tigers a runner in scoring position with one out. However, a grounder to the pitcher erased the lead runner, and Franciska Morlet chased down a fly ball in shallow right-center to end the inning.

Long Beach State loaded the bases behind back-to-back singles from Jessica Beaver and Morlet in the bottom of the sixth, but were unable to push a run across.

Prior to the game, the 49ers also paid tribute to the team's four departing seniors, Jessica Beaver, Brooke LeSage, Franciska Morlet and Lacy Tyler.

The 2008 Big West Champions, the No. 16 49ers will have to wait and see where they will play in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The selection show will begin around 7 p.m. on ESPNU Sunday night.
