Long Beach, Calif. - Danielle Linke hit her eighth triple of the season, part of a perfect day from the plate for the junior as Long Beach State defeated Cal Poly 3-0 in front of a sellout crowd at the 49er Softball Complex Sunday. Brooke Turner went the distance, allowing two hits in her 14th shutout of the season.
Jumping on the board right away, Long Beach State scored in the bottom of the first after Turner set down the side in order in the top half of the inning. Cal Poly starter Anna Cahn also grabbed the first two outs, but Brooke LeSage set the stage by drawing a walk. Jennifer Griffin continued her torrid hitting with a double, putting two runners on for Linke, who knocked a single through the left side to score two runs.
With Turner cruising, the 49ers added one more insurance run in the fourth inning, as Linke hit her eighth triple of the season to lead off the inning, setting her one off the LBSU season-record for triples. Bringing in Franciska Morlet to pinch run, an RBI single from Lacy Tyler accounted for the final score of 3-0.
Next week brings a big series for the 49ers, as Long Beach State travels to meet the other team tied for the conference lead, UC Santa Barbara in a three-game series. The teams meet for a doubleheader at Noon on April 19 before tangling a final time at Noon on April 20.
