
49ers Sweep Through Big West Play

LONG BEACH-- No. 37-ranked Long Beach State (16-5) ran the table on the rest of the Big West Conference for the second time in three years, sweeping Pacific (5-12) 7-0 and rolling to a perfect 8-0 record against conference opponents this season.
Stephanie Jeanes, a candidate for Big West Freshman of the Year, put forth an impressive resume to close out the final regular season home match, sweeping all eight singles and doubles match during conference play. She won today 6-1, 6-2 in singles after teaming with partner Jessica Weeks to win 8-3 at the No. 2 position.
LBSU swept the doubles point with Hannah Grady and Stephanie Bengson winning 8-4 at the No. 1 position and Deborah Armstrong and Lisa Sutton winning 8-4 at the No. 3 position.
Grady and Bengson were also perfect in their eight singles matches this season against the Big West, closing out their conference schedule with Grady winning 6-1, 6-2 and Bengson improving her school-record for singles wins, with a 6-2, 6-1 win. Bengson is now just two wins away from tying the all-time record for combined wins (147).
The 49ers close out the regular season at Fresno State on April 18, before beginning the Big West Tournament in Indian Wells starting on April 26. The Long Beach State, UC Irvine and Cal State Northridge women's tennis teams have locked up the No. 1 through No. 3 seeds.
