
49ers Win Black and Blue Match with UC Irvine Easily

LONG BEACH--No. 40-ranked Long Beach State (8-4) made easy work of No. 47-ranked UC Irvine (6-6) in the Black and Blue Rivaly match, defeating the Anteaters 6-1 on Saturday afternoon. It was the fifth straight victory for the 49ers.
The three 49er doubles teams continue their stellar work at the top of the order, winning the point for the ninth straight match led by the No. 1 team of Hannah Grady and Stephanie Bengson, who defeated Becky Bernhard and Clare Fermin 8-1. The No. 3 team of Deborah Armstrong and Lisa Sutton then clinched the doubles point with an 8-5 win over Brooke Bartlett and Ali Borowicz.
In singles, Bengson worked quickly to defeat Inna Agababian 6-3, 6-1 to begin singles competition, before Grady, the No. 72-ranked player in the country, defeated Bernhard 6-2, 6-4 and Stephanie Jeanes clinched the match with a 6-2, 7-6 win over Jessica Broadfoot.
The 49ers embark on a busy home schedule next week, hosting Purdue on Wednesday and Penn on Thursday at El Dorado Tennis Courts, before playing Nevada at the Costa Mesa Tennis Courts on March 15.
