Dirtbags Fall at Pepperdine 7-5

MALIBU-- No. 31-ranked Pepperdine (16-7) scored five runs in the first inning off of three errors and snapped No. 4-ranked Long Beach State's (17-4) eight-game win streak, with a 7-5 win on Tuesday afternoon.
The Dirtbags loaded the bases with no out in the ninth, as Steve Tinoco had a two-run single to make it 7-5 with two outs. Nick Gaudi, who loaded the bases, got Danny Espinosa to fly out with two runners on to end things.
Robert Dickman (3-2) pitched into the sixth, going 5.1 innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits, as LBSU loaded the bases in the sixth, before reliever Jordan Durrance got an inning ending groundout to keep it at 6-3.
After LBSU took advantage of two Wave errors to take a 2-0 lead, in the top of the first, three Dirtbag errors led to a 5-2 Pepperdine lead. Seven combined errors were made by the two teams over the first two innings.
Tyler Topp (1-2) did not get out of the second, giving up six runs on six hits. Adam Wilk pitched 3.1 shutout innings of relief work to keep it close over the middle innings.
The Dirtbags travel to No. 11-ranked California for a three-game series beginning on Friday as they continue their 10-game road trip.
