Long Beach State Blows Out UNLV In Vegas

Las Vegas, Nev. - Jessica Beaver drove in a season-high four runs as Long Beach State defeated UNLV in a 10-0 rout. Brooke Turner turned in another shutout for the 49ers, as the Beach improved to 12-7 overall on the year.
Both teams worked through a pair of scoreless innings before Long Beach State was able to put a run across. After two hits in the first two innings, the 49ers broke through in the third after a pair of singles from Brianna Goad and Franciscka Morlet to begin the inning. Jessica Beaver reached base after a throwing error by UNLV starter Traci Odegard. After a walk to load the bases, a sacrifice fly from Jennifer Griffin brought home a second run.
Another pair of singles started the next inning for Long Beach State, as Danielle Linke and Ashley Levine started the inning on the corners after their hits. Beaver then brought home her first run with a single to left.
A three-run advantage was plenty for Turner, who put in another commanding performance. The freshman pitched her third consecutive shutout, striking out five and allowing just three hits in the complete-game win.
However, the 49er offense wasn't done yet. Taking advantage of three more Rebel errors on the way to batting around, Long Beach State scored seven more runs in the top of the seventh. Brooke LeSage led off the inning with a single, and Linke and Levine reached on an error and a bean ball to load the bases. A Goad sacrifice fly brought home one run, and Morlet reached on a second error in the inning, juicing the bags one more time. Jessica Beaver then doubled to left, scoring all three runners and breaking open the game 7-0. Four more singles along with a third error brought home three more runs at that point for the Beach.
Long Beach State returns home next weekend as the hosts of the Long Beach Invitational. The 49ers will play four home games at Mayfair Park, welcoming a number of ranked opponents including Virginia Tech, UCLA and Northwestern.
