LONG BEACH-- No. 32-ranked Long Beach State (10-4) scored a 4-3 win over visiting Pennsylvania (3-4) on Thursday afternoon, winning the doubles point for the 11th-straight match, before taking the first six singles sets en route to the victory. LBSU has now won seven straight.
The doubles team of Stephanie Bengson and Hannah Grady continued to be red hot, winning their 10th straight and picking up their highest-ranked win of the season, defeating the No. 17-ranked team of Julia Koulbitskaya and Kate Kosminskaya.
After Stephanie Jeanes and Jessica Weeks won in straight sets to put the 49ers up 3-0, Deborah Armstrong clinched the match at the No. 3 position with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 win over Charlotte Tansill.
No. 72-ranked Hannah Grady lost for the first time in seven tries, falling to Kominskaya, 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.
It was Penn's fourth 4-3 loss on their West Coast road swing.
The 49ers will play at the Costa Mesa Tennis Center at 880 Junipero Drive in Costa Mesa on Saturday against Nevada.
