HONOLULU, Hawai'i - Freshman Brooke Turner put together another outstanding start, striking out nine batters in a 1-0 shutout win over No. 15 Hawai'i. The 49ers win over the Rainbow Wahine is the first over a ranked opponent this season.
Turner, having already thrown one shutout this season, picked up a second in dominating fashion. Scattering just two hits while striking out nine with no walks, she was in control throughout.
The 49ers took advantage of that, pushing their lone run across early. Danielle Linke doubled with one out in the second inning, and advanced to third after a groundout from Jonae Perez. Ashley Weber then singled to center, allowing Linke to score for the lone run in the inning.
With the lead in hand, the 49ers were in good shape, as Turner retired 12 of the last 13 batters she faced.
Long Beach State earned three spots on the All-Tournament Team, as Jennifer Griffin and Jessica Beaver were selected as infielders, and Lacy Tyler earned a nod as an outfielder.
