LONG BEACH -- The Long Beach State men's golf team is currently in sixth place after completing day one at the 12th annual Del Walker Intercollegiate Golf Classic at the Virginia Country Club. The 49ers shot a 281 in the second round to finish the day seven-over 567. Pacific and Houston share the lead as both teams are one-under 559, followed by Colorado State in second (560).
On the individual side, Karl Katnik is the top 49er as he's tied for 11th place as he shot an even-par 140. Aaron Slonim and Michael Drake are both tied for 22nd place as they carded a three-over 143. Senior JJ Katnik (North Tustin) made his debut as a 49er, finished the day tied for 35th. Stephan Stallworth of San Jose State sits on top of the leader board with a four-under 136.
"We played well in the afternoon, but we made some mistakes on hole number seven," said 49er Head Coach Bob Livingstone. "We're still within striking distance and the same time gaining a lot of confidence. This is the first time we've been under par all year, so we just need to keep the momentum going."
Final round action of The Del Walker Intercollegiate Classic continues tomorrow morning at 7:30 am, as fans are welcomed to attend.
