HONOLULU, Hawai'i - Playing in the winner's bracket at the Paradise Classic, the 49ers took a 1-0 lead off of a solo home run by Lacy Tyler in the first inning, but were unable to generate any more runs in a 6-1 loss to Hawai'i. Richie-Anne Titcomb had two hits and three RBI to lead the Rainbow Wahine.
Fresh off a comeback win over Central Florida in their morning contest, the 49ers got a big lift in their second game against Hawai'i in as many days as Lacy Tyler took a Courtney Baughman offering over the left field fence to put the 49ers ahead 1-0 in the first inning.
That lead would stand for two innings, as Bridgette Pagano worked two scoreless innings, allowing only one hit. In the third, three straight singles loaded the bases, and while Pagano retired the next three batters a sacrifice fly from Kaulana Gould tied the game at 1-1.
While the 49ers only got four hits off of Baughman, they got another extra-base hit in the fourth as Jennifer Griffin doubled with one out to give the 49ers a chance to regain the lead. However, the threat ended as a nice catch in right field allowed the Rainbow Wahine to double-up Griffin to end the inning.
Hawai'i finally broke the game open in the sixth. Leading off the inning, Kate Robinson homered to break the tie, and the Rainbow Wahine added three more with a Titcomb homer with two outs and two on.
Hawai'i added a final run in the seventh to account for the 6-1 total on the evening.
With the loss, the 49ers will play in the first game in the morning at Noon against Central Florida. The winner of that game will play Hawai'i at 4 p.m., and the loser will face Kentucky immediately following the first game.
