Beach Success Continues At Fullerton Invitational

Fullerton, Calif. - Julie Luzar won two matches to advance to the Flight B finals on Sunday, while Rachel Manasse and Jessica Weeks advanced the doubles back draw finals at the Fullerton Invitational. Deborah Armstrong finished just outside of Sunday's play in singles, falling in the top flight's semifinals.
Armstrong, who had finished Friday's action by qualifying for the quarterfinals, advanced Saturday after defeating LMU's Tina Razloznik 6-3, 6-2, but fell in three sets in the semifinals 5-7, 6-4, 6-1 to UCLA's Alexandra Walters.
In the 49ers' other singles action, Jessica Weeks was defeated in the quarterfinals of Flight B by Ali Borowicz of UC Irvine 6-4, 6-1. On the opposite side of the bracket, Julie Luzar continued her success from Friday, first stopping Cal State Northridge's Nina Jaworowski 6-4, 7-5 before advancing to the finals with a win over Heide Kaloi of UC Irvine with a comeback victory 3-6, 7-5, 6-1. Luzar competes tomorrow in the finals against Maria Malec of Cal Poly.
In back draw doubles action, the 49ers tandem of Manasse and Weeks grabbed two wins to move to the finals. In their first match, they defeated Hammel and Bryon of UC Irvine 8-6 before a win in the semifinals over LMU's Razloznik and Morgan, 8-5.
Armstrong and Luzar played in one match, winning a laugher over Southern Utah's Blanco and Latteier 8-0. Due to Armstrong's singles times, their semifinal match was pushed to tomorrow.
