No. 6-ranked California Sweeps Past 49ers 7-0 LONG BEACH— No. 6-ranked California (1-0) cruised by No. 41-ranked Long Beach State (1-1), 7-0, sweeping all six singles points first, before sweeping past all three doubles matches. The Golden Bears, featuring three ranked singles players and another doubles team, won in straight sets in all six singles matches, played first due to the inclement weather. The defending NCAA singles Champion, No. 10-ranked Susie Babos won at the top position, over LBSU’s Hannah Grady, 6-4, 6-1. Babos then teammed with Stephanie Kusano, ranked No. 36 nationally, and won over Grady and Stephanie Bengson 8-5. No. 31-ranked Bojana Bobusic swept past Jessica Weeks, 6-3, 6-1 at the No. 5 position, while No. 54-ranked Cristina Visico defeated Bengson 6-1, 6-3. The 49ers will play three matches next week, beginning with the rescheduled match at No. 8-ranked USC on January 30 at 3:30 p.m., before returning home to host CS Fullerton on February 1 and No. 36-ranked LSU on February 2. The match in Los Angeles will be started from the beginning per ITA rules. DOUBLES (played second, Cal won 3-of-3 for 1 point) SINGLES (played first, Cal won 6-of-6 for 6 points)
